Official Review #59

Several Locations in the Cincinnati area and 2 in N. Ky. check out the website for Locations near you, for this review I tried the Florence, Kentucky location.

7905 Mall Road
Florence, Kentucky
Just across from Florence Mall by Toys r us.

I have always loved Izzy's Sandwiches, their Reubens and Corned Beef & Salami, with Pickles and excellent Fried Potato Pancakes, I'm not sure when they started adding Burgers, but just recently I started seeing them pop up in best burger discussions for the area, so we decided to try them out.

We ordered a Double ZZ Burger with Corned Beef, $8,99  a 100% Angus beef on rye, you can get it with Corned Beef, or Pastrami.

Also an Izzy Burger $8.29 With lettuce, tomato and red onion on a toasted kaiser bun.

They both come with about 4 of their excellent Pickles, a big Potato Pancake, and a pack of Mustard, I normally don't use Mustard on my Burgers, but it's good on these and their regular Sandwiches.

They don't ask you here how you want them cooked, ours came well-done, next time if I come here again, I will ask if they can cook it Medium-Well and see if they will do that or if Well-Done is their Standard way to cook them.

They were fairly good-sized thick patties, definitely no hint of spices, no salt, pepper or anything, we had to add our own, it was a good tasting piece of Beef, reminded me of Zip's Cafe Burgers, a good tasting burger, but something I could cook on my own grill at home with good beef, nothing special, just plain good.

The Rye that mine came on was really good, I actually preferred it over the Kaiser Bun of their Plain burger, also the Corned Beef was excellent and added to the taste of the Burger, made it much better, gave it a better Flavor.

I think if they would add some spices when cooking it, and if they would ask how you wanted them cooked, would definitely improve the Flavor of these good burgers.

We both agreed this was a pretty good Burger and would definitely prefer the one with the Corned Beef on any future trips.

The Whole Meal definitely filled us up.

Final Thoughts: We can definitely recommend these Burgers, give the Double ZZ a try with Corned Beef or Pastrami, otherwise, you will get just a plain ole good burger, the Corned Beef or Pastrami really makes it different and special.

Final Rating: 7.0* - 6.0* without the Corned Beef or Pastrami, 7.0* with it.

 with Corned Beef on Rye!

We stopped in here on a late Monday night so we could get a meal and watch Monday Night Football, I had remembered getting Wings here more than 20 years ago and could not believe it was still here, I don't think it had the same name, but served Wings and the same type of food.

the inside looks great, it's split into 2 parts, the left side is the Bar with a wall separating the Dining area, which has an old-time look to it.

The Waitress was awesome that night, we ordered 20 Garlic Wings and a couple of deluxe Burgers.

The Wings were excellent, they won the N. Kentucky award for Best Wings in the area and it's well deserved, the Burger is another thing, I won't go into too much on it, except that, I won't go here again for Burgers, they are known for their  Wings, so that's what you should order, the Fries were also good.

The Bun fell apart, again, I absolutely hate when I 1st pick up a burger and the bun starts falling apart, the Burger itself, just was not very good, it was pretty plain, it was a big burger, but the bun was not good and the meat could have been much better, I  would never order it again, simply put, there are so many better Burgers around, go elsewhere for them, but go here for the Great Wings.

No more needed here, it just was not good!

Final Thoughts: Great Wings, I love the Garlic Wings & Fries with Celery & Blue Cheese!
If this were a Blog for Best Wings, this one would be in the top 5 and Challenge for the top spot, as good as any Wings around.

Final Rating: 4.5*

My Wife & I had a groupon Coupon and stopped in, it's in a nice little area of Covington, and the place itself, looked clean and updated, it was around Lunch time, I got the Main Strasse Monster $10.99
it was huge, no way to get this thing in your mouth, you have to cut it and eat it in pieces,
Double Chuck, Double Cheese, Double Fried Egg, 4 strips of bacon. is worth it with Fries, which were good.
With the Groupon coupon, it was nearly half of a $20 order, The Burger was very good, although I don't prefer Chuck, it was still very good, 2 fried eggs were too much, I can eat a lot, but this Monster is way too big and way too much burger, it would be much better at half the size for me, and still that would be a big burger, I would come here to eat a  Normal Regular Burger anytime, now when I say this Burger was huge, it's no exaggeration, it's the absolute biggest burger I've ever had, it was pretty good, but 2 eggs just took away too much from the taste of the meat, so I started removing some of the extra items on this thing to get a better taste of the burger, it definitely had lots of seasonings in it and was a bit overcoocked, but still good, I ordered it Medium-well but don't believe it made it that way, as it tasted Well Done
I've heard they have excellent Pizza and I saw several people picking up boxes of Pizza to go, so I want to try it next time, but the reviews say Pizza is good, Burgers are VEry Good and big, so are the fries, service was ok, Bar Tender was waitress at Lunch Time, not too busy or too many people, but when we gave her the Groupon coupon to start out, she seemed to get an attitude about it, I hate it when places offer coupons, then their employees give you an attitude for using them, service from her was slow, I still gave a good Tip, even though her service sucked, because I don't want them to think coupon people are cheap, but businesses, you need to get on your people about this coupon attitude, next time if service is poor, I will ask for the manager and tell them just because we have a coupon, does not mean we won't leave a good tip for good service and if service is bad, I will tell the Manager that's why no or very little tip, and that even with a Coupon I won't return a 3rd time or more, no matter how good the food, and that I will pass that on to everyone I know, if it happens again at any location I use a coupon at.

Final Thoughts: Very Good Burger, but order a regular burger, the Monster is too much and also you just can't quite get a taste of the burger due to all the extra stuff on this one., fries were good, service sucked.

Final Rating: 7.0*

This one will go under our out of town list, as there are none in Ohio or Kentucky.

They use to be around the area but are closed and I don't know why as they were an excellent Burger, their ad claims as it says, The World's Best Burger, well not quite, not even best in the area when it was around, but definitely a very good one.

We stopped here on a trip to S.C. near the Smokey Mountains.

I ordered, The Frick Burger during Lunch, I got the 1/3lb. burger meal it was a Lunch Special, this is the smallest burger they have, but make no mistake, this is not a small burger, if you go larger, be prepared to be able to eat a huge burger, it came with a drink & fries for around $10, not a bad deal.
it was a Hearty third-pound burger with Cheese.

The meat tasted like it had a few seasonings, salt & pepper for sure, and it was pretty good, one of the better burgers I've had in a while and it's been years since I've had a Fudruckers burger since they left Ohio and Ky.

It was a large Medium-Well piece of beef, tasted fresh, but the best part apart this burger and this place are, the Fixins Bar, it's like a Salad Bar for just the Burger, they have absolutely every single Topping you would ever want or think of to go on a Burger.

They have ever sauce and extra seasonings to go on it, after fixing mine up with the works, it really improved it, and made it, one of the best Burgers we've ever had, definitely top 10, maybe top 5, there were 2 of us on this trip and we both agreed on this, we both ordered the same burger, and both tasted good.

You can't go wrong coming here, nothing beats the fixings bar with a freshly cooked piece of beef.

The fries were also good, and they have cookies which were good.

Final Thoughts: I can definitely recommend this one and will eat here again, next time we head south for a trip.

Final Rating: 8.0*

Waffle House

Our 55th Review
Official Review #55

Any Waffle House, they are all the same & I've tried several in Ohio & Kentucky, and they are all around.

This one will be short, quick and simple and to the point.

The Burger does not taste like fresh beef, tastes like a badly frozen patty, the bun had no taste and was plain and generic tasting, I use to enjoy eating here, but I think they have switched where they get their products from and I think it's a lower quality place, either that or they still buy from the same one, and that place has lower the quality of what they sell to Restaurants.

Either way, it's a bad burger, I will NEVER< EVER< attempt a Burger at Waffle House again!.

Final Thoughts: If you like this burger and think it's good, then you've never eaten a good one or a great one.

Final Rating: 2.0*  BAD! or at the very least, closer to bad than it ever will be too good.

No Photos needed for this one, it was not worth the time to take a Photo.

We had 5 on this trip, I had the Kentucky Burger w/Brioche bun  it was right around $10 it was,
Topped with country ham and cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onions. We also ordered the
Potato Skins - very good $7.99 large portion
Topped with cheddar and jack cheeses, bacon and scallions.  Served with sour cream & salsa.
Fried Pickles $6.99
Dill spears deep fried to a golden brown and served with creamy dill sauce.
Stuffed Mushrooms
Mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat and cheese.
Chicken Tenders

Fried chicken tenders served your favorite way: Coconut, Southern Fried or Buffalo style, we got the Coconut tenders.
1 of us ordered the Kentucky Hot Brown, another Burger and Fried Catfish and Chicken Fettucine,

We arrived around 4:30pm on a Friday, just ahead of the dinner rush, we were seated right away and the waitress was nice & friendly, we ordered Full Portions of the appetizers but when they arrived they were huge orders, they offer half orders, now we know that's the way to go.

The Coconut Chicken Tenders were huge and very good, with only a light coconut taste, the Fried Pickles were average, but a huge order, the Skins very good and plenty of them, the Stuffed Mushrooms were delicious, I wanted more of them, I would return just for the Appetizers and order half portions next time.

When our Entrees arrived, my Burger was huge, one of the biggest I've ever had anywhere, a large piece of Meat, and big Brioche Bun, this bun is my favorite, everyone commented on how big and awesome looking the burgers looked.

My 1st bite, was told me right away that it was clearly not going to live it to its great looks, it definitely appeared to be real beef, but it just did not stand up to the taste test and to it's nearly $10 price tag, and the Brioche Bun, which I normally love, had no real taste to it, very plain bun,

I had not seasonings I could detect in it, I brought half of it home as I was filled up on the good appetizers, even later at home the burger still was average tasting, it was not a bad burger, but it was not a great one, but average in taste.

I would not recommend this burger as there are several better in the area, Hutchison's Grocery & Delites are only about 5 minutes or so away from here, and the burgers much cheaper and twice as good.

I would recommend and return for the appetizers, prices on them were about what they are at most places, the Fried Catfish was very good, but one of the smallest portioned of the meals and for around $17 it was overpriced, the Chicken Fettucine was bad, normally I prefer mine a White color, this one was reddish in color, I have never liked Chicken Fettucine that's red, and neither did our other members, Pasquales just down the road has one that's twice as good and cheaper.

We were all in agreement about the Burgers and appetizers as we always try each others food if we order something different. my Wife liked her Kentucky Hot Brown, so we can recommend it.

Final Thoughts: Very Good Appetizers, average Burger. The Crab Stuffed Mushrooms were awesome, a little expensive but awesome!.

Final Rating: 6.0*

Next Tasty Review: Fudruckers, we tried this one recently while on a trip, as we passed through Knoxville, Tennessee.

Crab Stuffed Mushrooms were awesome!

Our 53rd Review
Official Review #53

3 of us made this trip to Drake's it's a fairly new location in Florence, Ky. it's a big nice-looking sports bar, with lots of Tv's and even though it's a sports bar, there were a lot of Families with kids of all ages and the staff seemed to cater to the kids, so it's a great place for anyone.
2 of us ordered the TAVERN BURGER $10  smothered in sautéed onions, pepper jack cheese & remoulade sauce. I ordered the Mini Cheeseburgers:  $10  three mouthwatering minis topped w/

melted American cheese add bacon for a buck more which I did.

The minis were of a fairly good size, and they looked good, and their 2 big burgers were just that, huge.
they are made with 100% USDA GRADE A SIRLOIN STEAK as listed on their menu.

I originally thought my 4 minis would not be enough, but by the time I finished, I was full, we ordered them all Medium-Well, they tasted very good, and again the other burgers were huge, they did not seem to have much if any seasoning in them, but they still had a good grilled flavor, everyone enjoyed their burgers and said they would eat here again, but there are much better burgers to be had, especially for $10 all the toppings were fresh and tasted good, the service was very good, even though the place was crowded, and everyone liked the fries.

I would eat here again, but for $10 for a decent burger, I would probably look at trying something else if I came here again and save my $10 for a much better burger elsewhere.

Final Thoughts: Not a bad burger, even though Sirloin, it's still middle of the pack for this one, not really worth $10

Fricker's

Mason, OH 45249

We had the whole group try this place out, and we had heard lots of good things and we're excited, even though all the talk had been about the Chicken here, we had heard about some good Burgers also, so everyone ordered a variety of Burgers and Chicken item, off the Menu, I had
The Frick Burger,  I think it was around $10 or so, it's listed as a Hearty half-pound burger with all the fixings.
I ordered it Medium-well and when it arrived, it looked great and out of our group of 5, everyone agreed and commented on how great all the Burgers looked,

As soon as I picked it up, the Bun fell apart, I absolutely hate to pick up a Burger, especially one that looked this appetizing to start it and have the bun immediately fall apart,  for 1 thing the bun is just too big, no need for it to be so big, it's like they are trying to overwhelm the burger with toppings and the huge bun, the meat does not taste like fresh beef and homemade, tastes like a bad frozen piece of junk, I was absolutely surprised.

I did not bother to ask if it was real beef or a Frozen patty out of a box, simply because it just was so bad, I did not care what it was made of, it was not the absolute worst tasting burger I've ever had, but it was close to it, but after finishing the meal at sitting there talking with the others, I began to feel a bit sick with my stomach after eating it, the aftertaste I had with this one was awful.

The Fries were good, I tasted a bite of everyone's Chicken and their burgers, and the burgers all had the same general taste, the Chicken had an awesome taste to it, and would return for the Chicken.

But I was sadly disappointed with this burger, and no one else in the group thought their burgers were very good either, so we all agreed it would definitely hit the bottom of the rating list on the blog here.

Final thoughts: The Bun fell apart right away, never a good sign, even with a good piece of meat and this piece was definitely not good, I will never eat another burger here again, but would return for any of their Chicken items.

Final Rating: 2.5* Not Good at all! Looks good, but does not measure up to its looks! Fries good!
