Given the great reviews & comments of the outstanding burgers at Mayslick, the Burger Guys & gals couldn’t wait to give this one a try at our Favorite Local Gem.    Would this be an opportunity for a letdown?  or A Big Surprise.

Nestled in Mayslick about 15 minutes or so from Maysville, Ky, the Dinner Bell is a pleasant neighborhood Diner located next to & Linked by a doorway to the Gas Station/Store next door. Unlike the older look of this building, Don't let that fool  you, this place has awesome food & service.
The menu offers many Home cooked Southern Country cooking options and sandwiches. Included with fries or the best Cole slaw around slaw, the $9.99 Traditional Burger is a huge piece of Beef served on a good tastingr bun with tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise, and onion!

This is 1 huge Burger! & it looks great

We always taste a piece of the meat 1st by tearing off 1 small bite, it was clearly,

Fresh meat? Yes.    Hand made? Yes.   Made to order? Yes.   Toasted bun? Yes.   Juicy? Yes!

Toppings were fresh & tasty, the Fries excellent, Cole slaw is the best we've had anywhere.

We also think they have the best Fried Chicken Livers anywhere, also an huge taste Fried Chicken sandwich, great Meatloaf, everything we've had here has been overall great, top quality & friendly service every time, it's a bit of a small place so try to avoid the busy meal times, Prices are very good.

The Chef's are all excellent even when the Owner is not there doing the Cooking himself, everyone does a Fantastic Job, make sure to TIP WELL, they deserve it here.

Wednesday Nights are Senior Day & 10% off Seniors.

Score: 9.0
Rating: Exceptional

Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe

1/3 pound all beef patty topped with your choice of cheese (American, Swiss,
Provolone, or Pepperjack), crispy bacon, tomato, lettuce, mayo, pickle,
and onion served on a grilled bun
We stopped here in July 2022 during Cincinnati Burger week.

It's a nice place, clean & pretty good service.

The Burger was big, the toppings were all fresh & tasty.

I will make this one quick & easy, it's a big burger, looks awesome, but other than good tasting fresh toppings, forget it.

Overall it was an OK Burger, Definitely not top 10, probably not to 20, there are so many other excellent burgers in Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky, & the price at this time was expensive, but now currently the prices are out of this world & beyond Considering ever going back here again.

Would I recommend it, NO! Great Atmoshpere, always seems crowded, but I can find 25 other better & cheaper burgers around.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Get your great burgers somewhere else, this one is not worth your time for it.

Hamburber Deluxe: $5.00 Fries: $3.50

1/3 pound all beef patty topped with  (American), tomato, lettuce, mayo, pickle,
and onion served on a Sesame bun.

We went here on Friday 02/17 /2023 during at 1:30pm.  We thought it was enough after Lunch to avoid any rush, we were wrong, this place was packed, the Cook was also the Waiter but he did a wonderful job of handling it all.

It was a nice big burger, we always taste the meat by tearing a piece off and try it before we let any
of the toppings or burn or anything affect our thoughts on it, It was a very good piece of beef.

The toppings of lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, mayo & American cheese were all fresh & very good.

The Bun did not fall apart, always great, & it tasted good & fresh.

It was pretty big for price, my Wife got the Hamburger Deluxe, No Cheese & it was just as good without cheese, the Fries were as good or better than any we've had at any other restaurant.

The overall taste of the burger was very good & tasty, it definitely hit the spot & was exactly what we were looking for in a good Lunch to start our weekend.

Would I recommend it, if your in the area definitely stop in & try this little HIDDEN GEM out!

The Burger & Fries are well worth it & the Fish Sandwich we saw many ordering was big & looked great itself, so our next trip will be to try the larger Double burger & the Fish Sandwich & Onion rings.

FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a Pretty darn fine burger, is it top 10 on our list in the City?  NO.

But it's Definitely top 15 & probably very close to #12 or 11, not sure yet exactly where it will place on our list, but it's definitely one of the best in the City, better than ZIPS Cafe in Hyde Park which I've tried many times over the years & think it's overrated & Overhyped by it's many Locals that push all the reviews for the place very heavily, Zips is a plain good ole fashioned Burger, this one is Better.
We ordered a side of their excellent fries & you get some good chips with it.                                             It's an old Bar/Cafe with several Tv's for sports, it has a handful of parking spots with Meters out front on Montgomery Road, but just go on down ridge, turn left at the 1st street then the 1st driveway on your left into their back parking lot for free & their is a back Entrance right into the place restrooms are right there on your right as you enter the back door, it's a small place so go on off hours if you want a good seat.

Bacon Cheeseburger

1/3 pound all beef patty topped with your choice of cheese (American, Swiss,
Provolone, or Pepperjack), crispy bacon, tomato, lettuce, mayo, pickle,
and onion served on a grilled bun

We picked this one up at the Drive Thru on Monday 08/18/2020 during Cincinanti Burger Week.

It was a big burger, we always taste the meat by tearing a piece off and try it before we let any
of the toppings or burn or anything affect our thoughts on it, we got Provolone on one, pepperjack
on another one and Swiss on the 3rd, the Bacon was crispy and pretty good.

It tasted and looked like a Frozen Patty out of a box and it the meat itself was not that good,
I would rate the meat a 4 out of 10, if that, not a terrible Frozen patty from a box, but not
that good either.

Now what surprised us about it was the toppings and how it all mixed together.

Without the Meat on it, it was one of the better tasting burgers out of 8 we tried on the day.

It was our 3rd place we hit and we kept saying after going to Herb & Thelma's 1st, we would have
loved to have taken Herb's Burger and put it on this bun and toppings and you would have a real
winner here.

The Bun was good, the toppings fresh, but the mix of it all tasted very good, sorta had the taste of
Miracle Whip instead of Mayo, but not sure, it definitely needed lots of salt & pepper to help
the flavor of the meat to even have any.

I predict most will be tricked by the good mix of flavors of the toppings and bun and it will hide or
mask the not very good Frozen patty from a box Flavor.

But then again, it's a Chili Parlor, not a Burger joint, you get what you get.

Would I recommend it, if your in the area late and want a quick decent burger, yes, or a quick lunch.
But otherwise, get the Chili!

FINAL THOUGHTS: Get your great burgers somewhere else, this one is just for a quick fix or for Chili.
Or take it home toss out the meat and grill you a nice one on your own grill and you will have something.

I've been wanting to try this place out for many years now, but we just never had the opportunity.

And I'm sorry we did not get to under the old ownership.

But here is in with the new and out with the old.

It's a Bright Cheery place, lots of Neon signs and things to look at.

Parking is limited to the street out front and across the street,  we went about 4pm and it looked like we just avoided the Dinner rush, I would suggest going at an off rush hour time of day, or get take out as you won't get a seat without a long wait.

We wore our Masks of course as did all of the Staff, removed them at the table.
The Waiter was very nice, he asked if we had ever been there before and explained the menu to us and said call him when ready, as it's a very small inside, you can't seat very many people at all.

It has a nice bar also.

I ordered the Burger with 8.5 ounces of ground Angus chuck!
It had no official name just Burger, with a side of fries.
My Wife had the Filet Mignon Burger! A 1/2 lb. ground filet mignon. with a side of beer battered onion rings.
We ordered them with 2 slices of Swiss Cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, banana peppers and mayo.
They were huge burgers, for $10 and $12.50 they should be big.

The Buns looked & tasted like Brioche, they tasted very good.
The Toppings were fresh and extremely good.

My Angus beef burger was better tasting than her Filet Mignon, the Angus Burger was fantastic.

From the 1st bite we knew it was a top 10 burger on our list, big and juicy piece of beef, with lots of Flavor in it.

We could easily have split this one and enjoyed it, I ended up taking nearly half of it home.

The Onion Rings was excellent also as were the fries, try both.

FINAL THOUGHTS: We can definitely recommend this one anytime, but be very hungry and ready to eat.

A Fine Dining Location!

We chose this one based on it's location and the description of their Burger for Cincinnati Burger Week 2020!

Classic Diner Double
Two flat top pressed Patties, cheddar, lettuce,t omao, onon, comeback sauce.

This is one exactly as described a Classic Double in the style of a Frisch's Big Boy.

Is it better than a BB, NO! but it's close and a different taste, it was the absolute
messiest burger we've ever tried, the comeback sauce which was hard to tell what was
in it, along with the other toppings just dripped and ran all over the place, the
patties were sliding off, the Cheese was completely melted and the lettuce a bit wet, so that caused most of the dripping and sliding issues.  but overall it was a good solid burger.

We were torn about what the Meat was, I swore they were frozen patties out of a box,
the others thought Ground Chuck as the meat itself was a bit dry when we 1st got it
and tore a piece off to test before biting into it.

It was a pretty fair sized burger, much bigger than a Big Boy, more like it's old days
before Frisch's shrank them.

The toppings were fresh and tasted good, a good bun.

The waitress was absolutely wonderful, she brought us 6 sliced baguettes with butter
and the water was excellent, most places it's terrible but not here.

It's a very nice place inside, a fine dining restaurant, expect to spend a few extra
bucks if you eat a full meal here, but believe me the service alone is worth it.

Very relaxed place near the Kenwood Malls.

Would I eat this Burger again, NO!, it was pretty good, not great, not top 10 Material
on our list, probably not top 15 but pretty close, but then again, we have a lot of places
tied for several spots from 10-15 but I think it can fit in there, also it was just too
messy to ever order again.

Personally I would much rather have a big boy than this one.

Thanks Trio for the excellent service, you train your help very well.

FINAL THOUGHTS:  A pretty good Burger, but way too messy to ever order it again, I'm not sure it's a regular on their Menu, it's most likely something they put together for Burger Week 2020!

FINAL RANKING: Most Likely in the area of #15 tied with some others.

Next Tasty review: The Turf Club for sure, formerly the Famous Terry's Turf Club!

 Anderson Township Pub

The Pub Special!

We read about this little gem in an article written by Cincinnati Magazine, "top 45 burgers" in the past but had never had an opportunity to try it out until today during Cincinnati Burger Week 2020 3 of our group went, my Wife Sue, her Grand daughter Makenlee and myself, and let me tell you my friend, this place is awesome!

Do you dream of burger heaven?
This Burger is Not for the faint of heart,
I can tell by the 1st bite, how it will go when tasting a new burger, and all 3 of us can honestly say together, this is One Fantastic burger!

The Burger was big, & looked great, it's a big, thick, formed patty, itwas definitely close to a 1/2 Lb. This large burger had the juices flowing out, It looked to be cooked to order, Medium-Well, the char-grilled taste drives the flavor from the very 1st bite. it was clearly hand-made, & very fresh Beef.

Topped with Braxton infused beer cheese, fried banana peppers, and grilled jalapenos. Served on a toasted pretzel bun. this is a great looking burger.
The pretzel bun was able to support the large patty and the toppings, but was soft and easy to chew and delicious.

With Every bite we took, it brought forth the freshness of the Fresh Ground Beef Patty,  and the simple salt and pepper seasoning I detected in it.
har-grilled, moist, flavored with some basic seasonings, and served on a toasted bun.

It was not just the fresh ground beef patty we all loved, “We all Loved the buttered tasty pretzel bun and the different toppings of grilled jalapenos and fried banana peppers.

Did it check off the Pros of a great burger on our list going in?

 1. Fresh meat? YES
 2. Hand made? YES
 3. Made to order? YES
 4. Toasted bun? YES
 5. Juicy? YES
 6. Tasty Toppings? YES

Final Thoughts: We all 3 are in 100% agreement on this one, this was one excellent Burger, just awesome, definitely top 10 on our list, top 5 for sure, most likely #2 ,clearly a local GEM Sports bar...excellent customer service, delicious food, beautiful place with fantastic atmosphere...I mean what in the world are you waiting for already?  Get here to the Anderson Township Pub for this Burger, and a great looking place to watch a game and eat.

Our New #2 Rate Burger in our Top 10.

Our 89th Review

Official Review #89

                                                                   606.798.4500

UPDATE as of 2022  They changed the Vendor they get their Meat from & it was clearly not for the better, they use to have a top 10 Burger, but this visit proved they were trying to cut costs by buying very cheap meat & the burger was not even good, let alone great like it was previously, this one is not only coming out the top 10, it will no longer make the top 25 or may go even lower, we plan to try it out again in March, 2023 & I will update this again at that time.
Hours:

BREAKFAST & LUNCH
Monday- Sunday | 7:00am- 2:00pm

We went on Monday 07/12/.2020

It's Located in Tollesboro, Kentucky, about 15 minutes past Maysville, Ky. which is around 1 hour and 30 minutes from Cincinnati, Ohio.

It's off of the AA Highway so it's straight drive and you make 1 Left turn and it's just down that road and you're there.

It's a beautiful scenic drive and Tollesboro is a beautiful little town.
As you come up the road off AA hwy. you will see the Cafe at the end as the road goes left & right, pull right in and you can either go to the walk-up window or eat inside, they have several tables spread out.

You should wear a mask to your table then you can take it off, and one of the wonderful waitresses will wait on you and bring a menu.

We've been here twice this week already, the 1st trip we tried the Deluxe hamburger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and mustard and ketchup.

The 2nd trip we ordered Biscuits and gravy, 3 Lil Dixie Burgers, somewhat like a White Castle burger but much better, Onion Rings and a Cheese Coney.

The restaurant is a Cozy little old local cafe, nothing fancy, just great little dive and definitely a local gem, clean inside and a newspaper to read, you can park out front if you're using the walk-up window, if going inside there is a little parking lot on the left side.

The Burger is big, thick and awesome, after 1 bite I knew I would rank it in my top 10, it's an excellent burger with a nice flavor, clearly Hand-made fresh, it tasted as good as any burger in my top 10, the toppings were fresh and the tomatoes tasted homegrown, the lettuce crisp and fresh-tasting, as good as it gets, I like to tear a piece of the beef off and try it by itself with nothing else to influence my thoughts on the flavor.

We both agreed this is one delicious burger with some of the freshest and best-tasting topping we've ever had anywhere.

On our 2nd trip my Wife ordered the Biscuits and Gravy as she is the expert on that, she said this is her new favorite anywhere she has ever had them, I tasted them and also agreed.

The 3 Lil Dixie burgers were much thicker than any white castle burger and much better, they were excellent, they were not quite as good as the big burger, but still good and worth getting.

The Onion rings were fried to a perfect golden brown and as good as any we've ever had.

The Cheese Coney was very big and good, the Chili was sweet tasting which I don't care as much from sweet chili but it was good, so unless your prefer your Chili sweet I would stick with the burgers.

They also offer a full dinner style meal and hoagies and other items and also Ice Cream.

Final  Thoughts: Read the UPDATE above this has changed greatly!  In my humble opinion I consider this place a hidden Gem, due to the fact it is hidden away in this small beautiful town in the middle of nowhere.
We will definitely be coming back and trying more items and more burgers, even though it's about 90 mins from Cincinnati, Ohio, it's worth the drive for a great Brunch or breakfast and or Lunch.
The prices are excellent.

I have to rate it at #6 on our Top 10 reviews.

Final Review:   9.3* (Exceptional-Must try it!)

Five Guys vs In-N-Out battle!

Five Guy's Burger Homemade vs. In-N-Out Burger!

We tried this copycat recipe the other end to celebrate the end of Cincinnati Burger week 2019!

In a battle of burgers, Five Guys wins nationally. The East Coast burger sensation claimed the top spot in a 2017 brand report from Harris Poll, based on input from over 100,000 consumers.

In-N-Out, a cult favorite on the West Coast, held the title for the previous two years and has long been considered Five Guys' top rival. The burger chain recently announced it's opening a distribution center in Colorado, which could allow it to expand further east. All stores must be located close to these hubs because of the company's strict policy of serving its food fresh.

Five Guys has grown with it fame and fans. It has over 1,500 locations worldwide, while In-N-Out has about 300 locations across 7 states.

With their rivalry heating up between them my wife and I decided to give them a homemade taste-test, I've had both burgers more than once at their locations and I know how good both are and how they taste.   Here's are our results and we thing we made near perfect copycat recipes.

Here are the Copycat Recipes we used found online, we followed them down to the smallest detail!

Five Guys Burger Recipe
80-20 Beef Made into 3.5 oz. Patties
Stack 4 Patties high
on wax paper, then smash them flat.
cook on a grill & get a nice black finish to the patties

Grill some chopped onions
Sesame Seed buns - toasted

sliced deli American cheese - melt onto the beef patties while on the grill
To build the burger:
3 rings of Ketchup on bottom bun
2 rings of mustard on top of ketchup

top those with the grilled onions

on the top bun put on it
Mayo
lettuce
5 pickles - spread out
2 slices Tomatoe
place both patties on the bottom bun on top of everything.
wrap in Foil.

The in & out Burger - Double Double, animal style

The Spread

Mix this together-
2 tblsp. Mayo added to 2 tblsp Ketchup
2 tblsp. sweet relish - 1 half tsp sugar
1 half tsp White Vinegar

Heat some oil in skillet

Mince 1 whole onion - pour in skillet of oil
add a little water when it dries out, cook until it turns into a paste like substance.

Arnold Brand buns - or a Good White Bread Buns
Put in over at 400* for 2 minutes to darken the bun.

2 - 2oz. 80-20 Patties flattened thin, season with Kosher salt & pepper on both sides.

Cook Patties on a griddle oiled on griddle, you want a dark black crust on the patties
Cover the top uncooked part of the patties with Mustard.

after the bottom cooks, flip the patties with the Mustard on them.

Place 1 slice American Deli Cheese on top of each patty.
Use a metal cheese topper to melt the cheese, then let cook a bit longer, then place to the side when done.

brush some oil on top of the area where the burgers cooked, don't worry about the Mustard & cheese left on the grill, just brush on the oil.

Toast the buns on the oil, put a pretty good toast on them, with a little black & brown color.
put the sauce you made on the bottom bun.

Place 4 pickles on bottom bun on top of sauce
1 slice tomatoe
1 good slice lettuce
1 patty,
Top with the Browned/carmelized onions.

Top with the last patty - Slice of Cheese

Add the Bun Top.   Wrap in Wax paper
