Margie's Southern Cafe

Our 12th Review
Official Review #12

Margie's Closed Permanently & no plans to re-open

Margie's is an old Local Cafe in the Heart of Old Downtown Maysville, not sure how long it's been open, but I talked to 1 old-timer eating there & he said, he remembers eating there 20 years ago, so it's an established local Cafe.

I Ordered the Double Cheeseburger, we actually forgot to record & Remember the prices & lost our receipt, but prices are fairly good on everything.

One in our group ordered egg's & Sausage & Gravy with Toast, and 2 ordered just plain Burgers, another got the Fried Catfish, which I have had here before, so I will give an opinion on it all.

First, it's a clean looking place & the Waitress was nice & Friendly & so was the Cook, that you can see through the window in the Kitchen.

The Burgers are fairly good sized, they appeared to be hand-made, but I guess on this trip, everyone had a brain freeze & we forgot to ask to make sure, but the patties appeared to be of different shapes & sizes.

They were all big & juicy Burgers, I usually get mine plain, but ordered Double Cheeseburger, I thought the cheese was melted a bit much on mine, but the flavor of the Meat was very good, we all agreed on this, the Bun was ok, a better bun, would have translated into a slightly better score here.

The Fries were good, my Wife ordered the Breakfast & thought it was very good, she would definitely recommend the Breakfast food anytime.

The Fried Catfish in the past had been very good, but this order, was not all that good & appeared to be a pre-packaged frozen Piece, it just was not very good.

The Locals we talked to, love the Burgers & just about everything they serve here, but then again, most Locals favor their longtime establishments, but on this visit, we all must agree, we would return for the Burgers & Breakfast, one of the best tasting Burgers we've had & definitely at the moment, in our top 10 for sure, so if in Maysville, until we find another better, this is your best choice in Maysville, but the Corner Cafe still gets a slightly higher rating, 20 minutes away, but this Burger can stand on its own.

After we were gone, we all realized that we had been overcharged on our receipt by at least 5 dollars, this was a bit upsetting, as this is the first time this has ever happened anywhere, we did call back & talked to the Waitress & she said she would make a note with our name & our change would be there anytime we returned.

Final Thoughts: Very Good Solid Tasting Burger, definitely try it out if, in town, this was the 1st review that we actually had 5 different star ratings, usually 2 or generally 3 of us give the same stars, but 5 different ones here, so we did our best to average it out, 7.5 was as close as we could get, but I will just finish by saying, 6.5 to 8 rate this one, anywhere in between & you will be close.

Final Rating:  7.5* (Try it out-above Average/Good to Very Good)

City View Tavern

Our 11th Review
Official Review #11

403 Oregon Street Cincinnati, Ohio Mt. Adams 45202

513.241.view

We decided to visit City View, based on the High Ratings that we've seen in several of the Best Burgers in Cincinnati sites, that we have been checking out, & since we were already in Mt. Adams after visiting the Mt. Adams Bar & Grill & since we were so disappointed with their Burger, we just had to find another close by to try & make up for it.
Parking is a bit difficult especially if you go on the Weekend, or during rush hours, The bar itself is basic, no table service,  The reason to come here is the patio view. Great view of the city! The downside is it is a very small patio. this is just a friendly, neighborhood kind of place, a good Local Bar with Good Solid Bar Food.
Now onto our order,
Big Ted Deluxe: $6.75  1/2 lb. with Am. Cheese, brown mustard, onion, catsup, mayo,
tomato, lettuce, & pickle
served on a sesame seed roll from Giminetti Bakery.
Teddy Burger: $5.75 1/2 with catsup, brown mustard, mayo & pickle
Between the 5 of us, 2 ordered the Big Ted & 2 the Teddy Burger & 1 ordered the Beef BBQ: $4.50
All of our Burgers were ordered as usual from Medium to Medium Well, we have finally talked everyone into not getting any more Burgers well done, so as to preserve the Flavor of the Burger itself.
These were both big Burgers & definitely worth what you pay for, unlike some players that overcharge.

We liked the Sesame Seed Bun, it's a big improvement over the old buns they use to have here when I stopped in years ago.
The Burger definitely takes 2 hands to handle it, & it's very juicy & tasty, the Brown mustard & Mayo combined, gives it a bit different flavor, than others in town.

We all agree, that it's one of the better Burgers in the area, not the best, but it surely makes our top 10 & should make anyone else's top 10 as well, but as for the best, again, that's most likely been propped up as the best in town, in other reviews by a lot of the Locals, & people that have not tried out some of the other top Burgers in town, & if you've been out drinking late & stop in here for another drink or 2 & have a Burger, anything is likely to taste better than usual, none of had anything to drink & never do so, while doing our reviews, as not to taint our quest for the Best Burgers around.

Would I come here again, just for the Burger, yes, & My Wife really liked the BBQ also, not as good she said as Mt. Adams Bar & Grill's BBQ, but City View's Burger, blows away their Burgers, it's not even a comparison.

Final Thoughts: So far one of the better Burgers we have had in the entire area, & definitely top 10 for sure in any list, & for now, probably top 5, but we have many, many other Burgers to try, as our list grows.

Final Rating: 7.5* (Try it out-above Average/Good to Very Good)

Mt. Adams Bar & Grill

Our 10th Review
Official Review #10

938 Hatch Street Cincinnati, Ohio 45202-1592 Mt. Adams

We found this location actually through Groupon online Coupon's, we got a good deal, so decided to try it out, as we had no info on how their Burgers were.
I ordered The Classic Burger:$4.25 & so did 2 other's in our party, it's a 1/4 pound ground beef patty topped with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, pickle, onion, and mustard.
My Wife decided to try the BBQ Sandwich:$6.50 A blend of Roast Beef & Pork in a homemade sauce served on a grilled bun with slaw.
This Bar & Grill has been around for a very long time. When prohibition was repealed in 1933 the Bar & Grill in its present location was the first drinking establishment in Ohio to obtain a liquor license.
Parking is hard on the hill, but then again, almost anywhere in Mt. Adams is hard to find good parking.
The Building itself, inside & out has, Excellent atmosphere & decor & we enjoyed the outdoor patio.
The Service was ok, Waitress was semi-friendly, but was not going out of her for us, it was not busy the time of day, mid-afternoon on a Friday, so the waitresses were getting ready for a possible busy Friday night, & we seemed to be secondary for them.
Now the reviews, The Burger was Big,  & so was the Bun, but I did not care for the Bun, a better Brand or type would definitely help out, the piece of meat was fairly big, but looked to definitely be out of a Box, but we have been wrong on a few occasions about this, but that's how it appeared, most of the time we do ask if it comes out of a box or if it's hand-made, but the waitress did not appear to be around enough or in the mood for small talk, the Burger had a very Bland, plain taste, no actually it was not that good, it had some good sized lettuce & Tomato on it, & onion, pickle & Mustard, that helped to mask the blandness of the meat, but we always taste test several bites with just the meat & bun, & this one just did not cut it, it's a big Fancy, Good Looking presentation of a Burger, but the taste of the Meat & the not so good Bun, are not all that good, everyone agreed on this.
All except my Wife, she got the BBQ Sandwich, she said it was excellent, one of the best Pork BBQ she had ever had, so of course, everyone had to try a bite out, & yes she was right, it was an excellent Sandwich, thank goodness, someone had something good, the Slaw that came with it, was just ok, not bad, but nothing to write home or here about.

We definitely would return for the BBQ Sandwich, but never, ever would any of us order the Burger again.

There are far too many, much better Burger places in town, & in Mt. Adams, to go here for the Burger.

Final Thoughts: We all agree, that none of us, would eat a Burger here, even if we came with someone who offered to pay for it, for us, but we would get the Excellent BBQ Sandwich.

Final Rating: 2.0* (Still Wouldn't bother)

Next Tasty Review: City View Tavern, in Cincinnati, Ohio, & also in Mt. Adams, the Mt. Adams Bar & Grill Burger was so bad, we had to try & salvage this trip & find one close by that was good.

Chicago Gyros & Dogs

Our 9th Review
Official Review #9

201 W McMillan St, Cincinnati, OH 45219

We came here for Lunch 1 day, on a tip from a relative that works nearby at a Large company & several of the people there had ordered the Burger & Fries & had highly recommended them, I was a bit skeptical about it being a Gyro place to eat, & then having good Burgers, but I won't discount any Burger Joint, until we try it out.

We had a Variety of 13 Different Burgers to order from!

I ordered a Hamburger $4.00 that came with Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Mayo, & Red Onions, on a Sesame Seed Bun, which was Toasted & good.
they did not ask how I wanted it cooked, so right there, I was guessing it came out of a pre-packaged box.
Others ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger $5.00 all got Fries $2.00 with their Burgers.

At this time, no one ordered a Gyro, or the many other items on the menu, like Chili, Slaw & a Variety of Pita's & Salads & other items.

Overall, we would have to rate this Burger a 5.5, because, it does come Frozen, out of a Box, and even though it can, & does make a decent Burger, it's not up there with the Best around, I would compare it to the Toot's Burger, or close to it, the Toasted Sesame seed bun was very good, it had excellent pickles on it, & fresh Tomato & lettuce pieces, which I love the lettuce pieces cut up, like that, on my Burgers, but as far as just the plain ole Burger on the Bun, it could not cut it, on its own, it does need the good bun & other items on it, to bring it up to the final rating we gave it, we all liked the Fries, they were very good, & for a quick & fair priced Lunch, this is a great place to eat, & is located in the heart of Clifton & the U.C. area, it's a great place for Students to go, I probably would not come here again, just for the Burger, as there are way too many other & better options out there, if a good to great Burger is what your after, look more into our list, but I would come here again & eat inside because it is a very clean place, with a nice decor, & several other menu items, I would like to try.

Final Thoughts: Great place for U.C. Students & workers in the area to get a decent burger & fries at a good price, clean place inside if you eat there, & a good variety to the menu, but for a great burger, you must go elsewhere, this one is just average, & it comes out of a pre-packaged box.

Final Rating: 5.5* (Average/Not Bad-Nothing Special)

Happy Days Diner

4 of us went here to eat, while on our trip, it was a late Lunch, on our 1st day in Pigeon Forge, on a Saturday, & I had The Cheeseburger $5.95 w/Swiss Cheese & Fries, which I think was a very tasty burger, served on a Toasted Bun with Pickles & Cole Slaw, excellent fries, I really like them, the Bun was good & Solid, again, another Bun that held together without falling apart, this overall was a good sized Burger, another of us, had the Bacon cheeseburger $7.45, one of the best he had eaten anywhere, along with what he called, very good fries, 2 others had the Philly Cheese steak deluxe $9.25, both thought it was very good, I tried some, & it had a very nice taste to it, they also loved their fries, the water was also good, some places it is not, the waitress was good, not the friendliest but nice enough, & did her job, we had Fried Pickles to start, they were as good as any I've had anywhere, and all 3 others in our party agreed, the place looked clean, the waitress, kept checking back with us, & this was about 230pm on a saturday, there were only a few seats open, but no wait, but still had a lot of people, we would go back, prices, were comparable to any other similar place, both couples in our party ate for under $18 & we split the cost of the fried pickles.
We ate a couple days later at Mel's Diner, nearby, and the Burger I had there was terrible, one of the worst ever, read my review on it here, I would never, ever go to Mel's for a Burger again, I would return here for sure, they have a big, varied Menu, with lot's of items to choose from.

Final Thoughts: A very solid tasting, all around Burger & Bun, I would go here anytime for the Burger & Fries, but next time, will try something else to try it out, I would also order the Philly Cheese Steak anytime again, much better place to eat than Mel's Diner which is not far from here, I would choose & suggest this place to eat anytime over Mel's.

Final Rating: 7.5* (Try it out-above Average/Good to Very Good)
