Howard's Place

Our 79th Review
Official Review #79

A quick and short review, this one was simple.

We stopped in here on a trip through Falmouth, Ky.
We ordered a Bacon cheese Grillburger and 1 without bacon and fries on the side.
They claim 100% beef, all I can say is, it did not taste like it, it had the taste of a pre-made frozen patty, if it was pre-made I would rate it one of the better Frozen ones I've had, if 100% real beef, then not one of the better beef burgers I've had, the fries were good, but the best thing was the Ice Cream, but then again, it is a former Dairy Queen that burned down years ago.

Bacon Cheese GrillBurger™
1/4 lb. combo
One ¼ lb.* 100% beef burger topped with melted cheese, crispy bacon, thick-cut tomato, fresh green leaf lettuce, pickles, onions, ketchup and mayo served on a warm toasted bun.

combo item include 21oz. Coke® and regular fries

Final Thoughts: Again if it was a Frozen patty out of a box, then it was one of the 2 best frozen ones I've had, it would'nt compete either way in our rankings whether's real beef or frozen patty. either way, dead last on our list.

Final Review: 5.0* (Average/Not bad - Nothing Special)
Very Good Fries.

Next Tasty Review: working on the next one.

Herb & Thelma's

Our 78th Review
Official Review #78

718 Pike Street,
Covington, Kentucky  41011-213

No Phone Number could be found!

Herb & Thelma’s has been serving the best Burgers and Coldest Beer for the Northern Kentucky community and travelers from all over, for 78 years! They buy all of their products locally and Hamburger Patties are hand-made fresh daily!

“Just remember, it is cash only, but there is an ATM on-site in the "confessional" if you need it.”

Let get right into the burger. No frills, high-quality beef, pickle, onion, cheese and bun. No condiments needed! It was like biting into a piece of awesomeness, with handmade delicious ground beef. Soft textured and dripping with delicious flavor, 2 of us had a double with bacon and would love to have eaten another one. Definitely deserves to be on any "best burger" list" but sometimes overlooked.
The burger is moist and fresh.  Bun with onion and pickle fresh, the burger is freshly made to order, get the grilled onions on the burger AWESOME.

Wonderful place to grab a burger and beer. Cozy neighborhood spot,  friendly staff & Great atmosphere

Check the grill because no matter who manages this place, the burgers always come out special. It's gotta be the grill.
“If you like old school, this is your place, and I don't mean any of the so-called 50's diners around.this is
 old school.”
“It truly is a one-man show because all the food is cooked on the stove right there in the bar.”
The fries and the onion rings were good too
It's a Classic American diner serving cheap burgers
old school burger joint which has some of the best burgers in Covington. AND THE CHILI, oh my gosh it was good. The food is cheap

the burgers alone make me want to come back over and over.

burgers great people very authentic atmosphere
We went mid-afternoon Wednesday and it was empty, so there was no wait and our food came out quick.
Purely a great burger, no-frills,

The Fried Bologna Sandwiches were fantastic!

Their Bean Soup is awesome & Chili Very good!

Final Thoughts: Definitely top 10 material here for our list, I would eat here anytime I would surely get the delicious Bacon on it,
Definitely try the Fried Bologna sandwich & or Chili with it, one of the best in the area.

Final Rating:  8.6*  (Try it-abv Avg/Gd to VG)

Tavern on The Bend

Official Review #76

We tried this one out during Cincinnati Burger week 2018,  I am shortening up some of the Burger week Reviews so I can get them all done as quickly as I can, but I try not to leave anything out.

One thing you’ll notice right off is the “frozen looking” patty, our whole group noticed it also, The  “Patty looks frighteningly perfect but tastes fresh and very good!”. It was a topic of interest, so we asked the Chef why
Chef Paul said “They must press fresh meat in a form, if not that was the best damn frozen patty I’ve ever seen... but I’m sure it’s fresh not frozen” Fact is, the Tavern burger is fresh. They get their meat (special ground) from a local butcher, Fresh, locally ground meat from Eckerlins, excellent tasting beef.

It wasn’t just the patty we all dug either, “We all Loved the buttered bun and the fresh toppings.” very tasty Bun.

Maybe a tad bit of salt & pepper on the patty, either way, it was delicious.

the staff at Tavern on the Bend is welcoming to newcomers. Service was attentive without being overly so. Our drinks were refilled several times.

the buns. While the sweetness paired nicely with the burgers, they seemed to disintegrate as we ate, I would suggest either getting a Brioche bun or something that holds together a bit better.

Their Mac and cheese is awesome

Final Thoughts: Definitely top 10 material here for our list, I would eat it anytime I would surely get the delicious Bacon on it, also I liked their mayo on it.
Definitely try the Mac 'n' Cheese, one of the best in town.

Final Rating: 8.7* (Exceptional-Must try it!)

HOURS

Monday - Sunday | 7:00am - 9:00pm
We decided to visit this one for Cincinnati Burger Week,
The burger was very good, the flavor was solid all around, definitely a hand-made patty, with possibly salt & pepper on it, not much else spice wise, , it also had a very good bun. You can also build your own burger or order a signature burger.
We went ordered the Dynamite Burger 1/2 lb. house blend of ground beef with crispy onion straws, melted ghost pepper cheese, shaved jalapenos and sriracha mayo on a toasted jalapeno-infused bun.
This was a good sized Burger & definitely worth what you pay for, unlike some places that overcharge, for their regular prices.

We all agree, that it's one of the better Burgers in the area, not the best, but it surely makes our top 15 & should make anyone else's top 10 as well, but as for the best, again, that's most likely been propped up as the best in town, in other reviews by a lot of the Locals, & people that have not tried out some of the other top Burgers in town.

Would I come here again, just for the Burger, yes, & My Wife really liked it also.

Final Thoughts: So far one of the better Burgers we have had in the entire area, & definitely a top 10 contender for sure in any list, & for now, probably top 15 on our list, very close to the top 10, but we have many, many other Burgers to try, as our list grows.

Final Rating: 8.2* (Try it out-above Average/Good to Very Good)

Ladder 19

Our 75th Review
Official Review #75

2701 Short Vine Street
Cincinnati, OH 45219

We tried Ladder 19 located in the Clifton area, today Saturday 7/21/2018 for Cincinnati Burger week, we got there about 1:30pm, it was raining hard, and the place was packed, so my Wife waited in the car for this one, I was seated at a 2 – person table, appeared to me to be the last seat in the house, had to wait a few extra minutes, the manager came over, said hello, asked a Waitress to get my order, I got the Beer Cheese Burger a 1/2 lb. burger topped with melted beer cheese,  long crispy bacon, and  crispy fried onion straws,  on a pretzel bun, it was not on their regular Menu that I could find, a few minutes later they asked if I would move to the Bar so 2 people could be seated at my table, I was fine with that, they were very nice, and by then, there were a few spots at the bar open to sit.
The Manager was extremely nice, and the Bartender was also.
I just got the Burger & Water, as I was not staying long since it was so crowded & my Wife in the car.
This Burger was huge, 2 thick hand-made Patties, definitely made by hand in their Kitchen for sure, maybe some Salt & Pepper, but that's about it for spices in the burger, the bacon strips were huge and crisp with excellent Flavor, the Beef also had very good flavor to it, I really did not taste the perfectly crisp onion straws that much on it at all, it was a warm Pretzel bun, soft & tasty.
It's a very busy area at all times of the day & night, parking is at a premium, I parked down Charlton street on the side of Ladder 19 and then down around the next corner, not that far of a week, but it was free parking, so I didn't mind the walk, even though it was raining, I got lucky and caught the rain in between downpours, more of a College area Hang out, so go for Lunch or non busy hours.

I made sure to Tip properly at each Burger Week place I ate at this week.

Final Thoughts: Again, another short, quick, review, why, because it's so simple to do this one, nothing to write, except, go here & get one, you must try it out, it's absolutely a very good Burger, I would recommend it and eat here again, it probably will finish just outside my top 10 and just barely ranked a tad lower than Hangover Easy which is just around the corner & across the street from their side entrance.

Final Rating:   8.2*(Try it-above Avg/Good to VG)

This is the Photo of our Burger after I got back to the car, the container is the one leftover from another place, I just wrapped it up in the paper when I left, they were too crowded to bother asking for a container or bag.
